This religion is much more sensible than the most, since it is based on a certain interpretation of the objective reality, rather than on making that reality up. It is very likely that in the nearest future rapid development of technology will create various forms of technological worship, and worshiping an AI, a being that by its very design is far more intelligent than any of us, makes the most sense. After all, a fully developed artificial intelligence is as close to a God as we can have in this environment.
At the same time, this religion will likely also breed certain extremist groups. The groups that believe that the technological progress should happen at any cost, and any sacrifices are justifiable. And given how much damage just one individual will be able to make in the distant future given the level of technology available for the average citizen, such an extremism could have truly horrible consequences.
But that is another topic. With regards to the premise of the religion itself, it seems to me to be both relatively reasonable, and having a potential to spread across the world.
